چکیده

We present an analytical framework for the channel estimation and data detection in massive multiple-input multiple-output uplink systems with 1-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) i.i.d. Rayleigh fading. First, we provide closed-form expressions of mean squared error (MSE) considering state-of-the-art linear minimum MSE estimator class scaled least-squares estimators. For detection, expected value variance estimated symbols when maximum ratio combining is adopted, which can be exploited to efficiently implement distance and, potentially, design set transmit symbols. Our findings explicitly depend on key system parameters such as signal-to-noise (SNR), number user equipments, pilot length, thus enabling a precise characterization performance ADCs. The proposed analysis highlights fundamental SNR trade-off, according operating at right noise level significantly enhances performance.

Quantization Design and Channel Estimation for Massive MIMO Systems with One-Bit ADCs

We consider the problem of channel estimation for uplink multiuser massive MIMO systems, where, in order to significantly reduce the hardware cost and power consumption, one-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) are used at the base station (BS) to quantize the received signal. Channel estimation for one-bit massive MIMO systems is challenging due to the severe distortion caused by the coarse...

Throughput analysis of massive MIMO uplink with one-bit ADCs

Massive MIMO is a disruptive technology that consists of equipping communication transceivers with an excessive number of antennas to enable unprecedented gains in throughput and radiated energy efficiency. From an industry perspective, massive MIMO will happen only if the required large antenna arrays can be built out of low-cost (and, hence, low-precision) components. Therefore it is of inter...

Blind Estimation of Sparse Broadband Massive MIMO Channels with Ideal and One-bit ADCs

We study the maximum likelihood problem for the blind estimation of massive mmWave MIMO channels while taking into account their underlying sparse structure, the temporal shifts across antennas in the broadband regime, and ultimately one-bit quantization at the receiver. The sparsity in the angular domain is exploited as a key property to enable the unambiguous blind separation between user’s c...

Performance Analysis of 1-Bit Massive MIMO with Superimposed Pilots

In this work, we consider a 1-bit quantized Massive MIMO channel with superimposed pilots (SP), dubbed “QSP”. With linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) channel estimator and maximum ratio combining (MRC) receiver at the BS, we deive an approximate lower bound on the ergodic achievable rate. When optimizing pilot and data powers, the optimal power allocation maximizing the data rate is obtai...

Massive MIMO with 1-bit ADC

We investigate massive multiple-input-multipleoutput (MIMO) uplink systems with 1-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) on each receiver antenna. Receivers that rely on 1-bit ADC do not need energy-consuming interfaces such as automatic gain control (AGC). This decreases both ADC building and operational costs. Our design is based on maximal ratio combining (MRC), zero-forcing (ZF), and least...
